Decision taken not to hold May Day events this year

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A decision has been taken to suspend all May Day programs following a meeting with political party representatives at the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO).

All party representatives have unanimously agreed with the decision not to hold all May Day celebrations, Head of the NOCPCO. Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.

Task Force Members of NOCPCO, Medical Experts, Epidemiologists, PHIs and main stakeholders, engaged in the control of COVID-19 epidemic participated in a special meeting headed by Director General of Health Services Dr Asela Gunawardene and General Shavendra Silva Monday (19) afternoon at the NOCPCO.

The officials evaluated developments, related to preventive measures, new trends, emergence of global clusters, public gatherings, quarantine procedures, affected cases, forecasts, etc. during the meeting.

Representatives of all parties also participated in the meeting during which, they have unanimously decided not to hold all May Day rallies and meetings of all parties, considering the current situation of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
