New Bangladesh HC meets Defence Secretary

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The newly appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner (HC) to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Tareq Md Ariful Islam paid a courtesy call on the Defence Secretary Gen. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) today (July 5) making his first visit to the Defence Ministry at the Defence Headquarters Complex, Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte.

Following a warm reception, the Sri Lankan Defence Secretary held discussions with High Commissioner Ariful on matters of bilateral importance and mutual relevance.

Highlighting the significance of military diplomacy during the session, Gen. Gunaratne assured to further strengthen the existing ties between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Defence Secretary praised the present leadership of Bangladesh for their recent notable economic development in the South Asian region.

Highly impressed with the rich architecture of the new Defence Headquarters Complex, the High Commissioner stated this appears to be one of the iconic structures in the region.

The Defence Ministry’s Military Liaison Officer Brig. Dinesh Nanayakkara and Bangladesh Defence Advisor in Colombo Commodore Md Shafiul Bari were also present at the bilateral discussion.

Following the meeting, mementoes were also exchanged to mark the occasion.

The event was held in keeping with the healthcare procedures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
