President inspects Army Headquarters in Akuregoda

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Commander-In-Chief for the first time visited the Army Headquarters in Akuregoda Sri Jayewardenepura yesterday (03) on an invitation to inaugurate the new ‘Battlefront’ digitalized Operations Room of the Directorate of Operations of international standards at the new Army Headquarters.

The President was received at the Army Headquarters by the Chief of Defense Staff, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva and was accorded special military honors.්‍

After inaugurating the new Operations Room, the President observed digitalized operational aspects in the new Operations Room.

The state-of-the-art new Operations Room, a conceptual initiative of General Shavendra Silva is well equipped with most modern signal and digitally-advanced technical accessories, through which all ground level troop locations and deployments could be spotted and necessary instructions, transmitted within seconds in the event of any emergency or natural disaster.

The President afterwards received a comprehensive description of the functional aspect of the new Operations Room, its most modern accessories and watched a few related presentations, submitted by two Senior Officers.

Major General Nishantha Manage, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division under which the Air Mobile Brigade operates, presented a brief introductory account that led to the compilation of the book as part of the Commander’s initiative under the ‘Army Way Forward Strategy 2020 – 2025’ to the President.

The President inspected a number of sites in the Army premises, including the Museum.

Secretary to the President PB Jayasundera, Chief Adviser to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary General (Defense) Kamal Gunaratne and senior Army officials were also present.
