US CDC adds Sri Lanka to ’Do Not Travel’ list

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday warned against travel to Sri Lanka because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

The CDC has issued a Level 4 Travel Health Notice for Sri Lanka due to COVID-19, indicating a very high level of COVID-19 in the country.

The CDC advised U.S. citizens to avoid travel to Sri Lanka. And if they must travel to Sri Lanka, to ensure that they are fully vaccinated before travel.

Because of the current situation in Sri Lanka, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants, the CDC said.

Travelers should follow recommendations or requirements in Sri Lanka, including wearing a mask and staying 6 feet apart from others.
