New circular issued on maintaining the public service under Normalcy

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Ministry of Public Services, Provincial Councils and Local Government Friday (October 01) issued a revised circular for recalling state sector employees back to work to maintain the public service under normalcy.

JJ Ratnasiri, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Service, Provincial Councils and Local Government has issued notices to all Secretaries to Ministries, Secretaries to State Ministries, Heads of Departments and District Secretaries to only call employees who are vital to maintain the essential services.

The circular also states that the authority to summon employees to institutions according to their needs will be vested in the Secretaries of Ministries, Heads of Departments and Heads of Institutions.

However, the above provisions are not applicable to the staff officers who are entitled to official vehicles/ receiving transport allowances or provided with transport facilities by pool vehicles and, they are required to report for duty as usual.

All the other public officers are bound to perform their duties online and, even the officers who are called for duty should perform their duties online on days they are not called for duty.

Pregnant officers, breastfeeding mothers and officers with particular illnesses should not be called for duties, except in urgent situations. In such cases they should be provided with special facilities and allowed a special time to arrive at the workplace and depart.
