Police officers killed in Thirukkovila shooting posthumously promoted

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) CD Wickramaratne today paid his last respects to the four police officers who were shot dead by a fellow officer at the Thirukkovila Police Station.

The IGP visited the residences of the slain officers and expressed his condolences to the families of the officers on behalf of the Sri Lanka Police.

IGP CD Wickramaratne also issued an order to posthumously promote the four officers to the next rank.

Accordingly, late Police Sergeant (44132) KLM Abdul Cader was promoted as Sub Inspector and late Police Constable (8861) A Navinath, Police Constable (78857) TBKP Gunasekara and Police Constable Driver (17382) DMTH Pushpakumara have been promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective from 24 December 2021.

The IGP also made a donation to the families of the deceased officers.

The four police officers of the Thirukkovil police station were killed when a police sergeant attached to the same police station opened fire on Christmas Eve. Afterwards the sergeant who opened fire has surrendered to the Athimale police station along with two T-56 assault rifles and ammunition.
