(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – A total of 41 more cases of Omicron COVID variant have been identified in the country.
Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Director of the Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology Unit of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sri Jayewardenepura in a Twitter message announced that 41 new cases of Omicron have been identified in his laboratory as of today.
Accordingly, the total number of omicron infections in the country has increased to 45.
However, Dr. Jeewandara said Sri Lanka has plenty of mitigation measures against Omicron variant and urged the people to get their booster as a priority to prevent severe disease.
Sri Lanka confirmed its first case of Omicron variant on December 03 in an unvaccinated Sri Lankan female who had returned from Nigeria.
