Over 39,000 tourists arrive in Sri Lanka within the first two weeks of the year

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga says that 39,172 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka in the first two weeks of this year.

During the first 14 days, most of the tourists have come to this country from the Russian Federation. Accordingly 6963 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka from the Russian Federation during the past two weeks.

During the Covid pandemic last year, 194,495 tourists have visited the island and the highest number of tourists arrived in the last three months of the year. The number of tourist arrivals during the last three months was 156,571.

In addition to the Russian Federation, the highest number of tourists have visited Sri Lanka in the last two weeks from India, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Maldives, Australia, Poland and the United States.

The Minister further stated that special promotional programs have been launched in Russia, Ukraine, England, Germany and France targeting tourism promotion and as a result the number of tourists visiting Sri Lanka from those countries has increased.
