Veteran singer Neela Wickramasinghe passes away

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Veteran singer and musician Visharada Neela Wickramasinghe has passed away in Italy. She was 71 years old at the time of her death.

Wickramasinghe died while serving as the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Milan, Italy.

She sang her first song for the then Radio Ceylon in 1959 for a program ‘Amateur voice.’ After studying North Indian Classical Music, she graduated in 1974 with a Sangeeth Visharada Degree.

Wickramasinghe had a number of popular hits Neela Wickramasinghe has a number of popular songs including such as Master Sir, Rantikiri Sina, Punchi Sithe Punchi Seena and duets with T. M. Jayaratne

Later, Wickramasinghe became a teacher in music and was recently appointed as the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Italy.
