Sri Lanka to receive a donation of one million metric tons of rice from China

 

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The government of China has decided to provide one million metric tons of rice to Sri Lanka free of charge.

The Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa has stated at the Cabinet meeting held last night (18) that the Chinese Ambassador had informed him about the donation.

Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena had recently requested the Chinese Ambassador to provide one million metric tons of rice free of charge as the China-Sri Lanka Rubber Rice Trade Agreement marks 70 years this year.

The Chinese Ambassador had requested that the request be forwarded in writing to the Chinese Embassy through the Ministry of Finance and accordingly the External Resources Department of the Finance Ministry had submitted the request.
