(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The Paddy Marketing Board says that 20 centers have been set up in the Polonnaruwa district to purchase paddy from farmers under the government guaranteed price this season.
The purchase of paddy has commenced from last Monday (01).
Accordingly, a guaranteed price of 92 rupees for a kilo of Nadu paddy, 94 rupees for a kilo of Samba paddy and 97 rupees for a kilo of keeri Samba paddy will be paid by the government, said Polonnaruwa Regional Manager of the Paddy Marketing Board Nimal Ekanayake.
The government hopes to purchase 50,000 metric tons of paddy from farmers in the Polonnaruwa district this Maha season, he said.
