Sri Lanka Central bank Governor resigns

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Following the resignation en masse of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s cabinet, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal has also resigned.

He states in a note on his Twitter account that the relevant resignation letter has been sent to the President.

“In the context of all Cabinet Ministers resigning, I have today submitted my resignation as Governor, Central Bank of Sri Lanka To the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa,” the brief message said.

The entire cabinet of 26 ministers on Sunday resigned from their respective ministerial portfolios amidst the worst economic crisis in Sri Lanka’s history. However, the President and the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa remain in their posts.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is expected to meet the President today to form a new cabinet.
