No COVID-19 deaths reported yesterday in Sri Lanka after a year

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – The number of daily deaths due to COVID-19 in the country has come down to a minimum after nearly a year.

According to the Government Information Department, no COVID-19 deaths were reported yesterday. Covid deaths had been reported daily in Sri Lanka since April 13 last year. The number of Covid deaths reported in Sri Lanka so far is 16,485.

A statement issued by the Government Information Department stated that the number of Covid deaths reported from Sri Lanka during the last week had not passed the 10 mark.

With the increase of Covid 19 deaths last year, the vaccination drive for the control of the virus began in January last year and steps were taken to give the public three doses of vaccine as first, second and booster.

Health sources say that the spread of Covid in the country has been brought under control in this manner as the majority of the country’s population has received vaccination.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of Health Ministry, 17,013,894 have received the first dose of the vaccine, 14,427,857 received the second dose and 7,892,726 have received the third or booster dose.
