World Bank agrees to provide financial assistance to obtain urea fertilizer

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –The World Bank has agreed to provide the necessary financial assistance to obtain the required amount of urea fertilizer for paddy cultivation in the 2022 Maha season, Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera said.

A discussion was held at the Ministry of Agriculture last week under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Conservation Mahinda Amaraweera regarding obtaining chemical fertilizers required for paddy cultivation in the 2022 Maha season.

Discussions were held with the Sri Lankan delegation of the World Bank on providing chemical fertilizers to the farmers during the 2022 Maha season.

The Minister further said that the World Bank delegation has agreed to provide the necessary financial assistance to provide the full amount of urea fertilizer required for the farming community to cultivate paddy in the country during the 2022 Maha season without hesitance.

Representatives of the World Bank’s Sri Lanka Office, Country Manager Chiyo Kanda, Senior Agricultural Economist John Kaiser, Consultant Husam Abudagga, Senior Planning Specialist Anjali Vitharanage, Senior Agricultural Specialist Athula Senaratne, Secretary to the Ministry BR. Pushpakumara and others participated in the discussion.
