Sri Lanka Prime Minister and IMF team begin talks

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has commenced discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) team currently in Sri Lanka this morning, the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The IMF team is in Sri Lanka to continue in-person discussions with the Sri Lankan authorities to reach a staff level agreement.

The Prime Minister’s Office said that the future course of action on borrowing will depend on the conclusion of agreements between Sri Lanka and the IMF staff level, and that the delegation will stay in Sri Lanka for about a week to hold discussions.

Sri Lanka expects $ 4-5 billion in loan assistance from the International Monetary Fund. Earlier, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had stated that the loan assistance from this fund would enable Sri Lanka to obtain assistance from other countries.
