Sri Lanka’s Yupun Abeykoon sets new South Asia sprint record

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Yupun Abeykoon of Sri Lanka won gold at the Resisprint International athletic meet held in Switzerland breaking the South Asian record for the second time in 2022, official match results showed.

Abeykoon, the sprinter who represented Sri Lanka in the 2021 Olympics, won gold for Sri Lanka recording a time of 9.96 seconds, breaking his own record of 10.06 seconds performance at the International Athletics Meeting Anhalt 2022 in Germany.

With the achievement, Abeykoon became the first south Asian athlete to finish a 100 meter sprint under 10 seconds.
