24 Companies from 10 countries express interest to sell petroleum products in Sri Lanka

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said 24 companies from 10 countries have expressed interest in engaging in the petroleum sector in Sri Lanka.

According to the Minister, 24 companies from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, the United States, China, India, Russia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Norway and the Philippines have submitted proposals for the Expressions of Interest (EOI) to engage in the Petroleum Business in Sri Lanka.

The Ministry of Power and Energy last month called for expressions of interest from established companies in petroleum producing countries using their funds for importation, distribution and selling of petroleum products in Sri Lanka on long-term agreements.

In response to the request 24 companies have submitted proposals, Minister said.

Minister Wijesekera said a committee appointed by the Ministry of Power and Energy will now evaluate the proposals, issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and finalize the process in six weeks.
