Two members of Public Utility Commission resign

(LANKAPUVATH | COLOMBO) – Two members of the utility regulator, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has resigned from their posts yesterday.

Deputy Chairman B.K.U.A. Wickramasinghe and Member Mohan Samaranayake have handed over their letters of resignation to the Secretary to the Ministry of finance.

Conflicts of opinion had arisen between the chairman of PUCSL Janaka Ratnayake and the two members recently, and they have recently alleged that they recently received threats with the knowledge of the chairman.

Mr. Mohan Samaranayake and Mr. Udeni Wickramasinghe have met the President and discussed the situation in this regard.

According to the Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, there are five members in the Public Utility Commission and one has resigned last year and the maintaining quorum is three. With the resignation of the two members the Commission has no quorum to approve any decisions.
