US Navy trains Sri Lanka Navy divers in underwater unexploded ordnance recovery

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Members of the United States Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Five (EODMU 5) recently conducted a training program for the divers of the Sri Lanka Navy in Underwater Unexploded Explosive Ordinance (UXO) Recovery.

Sri Lanka Navy divers successfully completed the training program held at the Trincomalee harbor from 04th to 22nd September. The program was aimed at building confidence and enhancing the knowledge of Sri Lanka Navy divers in underwater operations.

Members of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit Five (EODMU 5) stationed in Guam are trained in mine countermeasures, improvised explosive device operations, rendering safe explosive hazards, and disarming underwater explosives such as mines.

Course participants were awarded certificates for successful completion of the program by the Deputy Commander Eastern Naval Area, Commodore Merrill Sudharshana, the Command Diving Officer (East), Captain (CDO) Krishantha Athukorala and Lieutenant Andrew Heymann of the US Navy EOD Mobile Unit 5.
