(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –India and Sri Lanka signed a Program of Cooperation (POC) to implement the Agreement signed for cooperation in the fields of Science and Technology on 4 th August 2016 in India. This is the 2 nd POC signed
between the Ministry and the Department of Science and Technology India.
According to this POC, a joint call was announced to request for Joint Research Proposals and Joint Workshop proposals. The proposals were called under the thematic areas of Food Technology, Plant based medicine, Metrology, Space research & Applications, Robotics and Automation, Industrial Electronics, Any other area of national importance.
Both Parties received more than 100 proposals by the deadline.
Both Parties evaluated the proposals and graded them according to priority areas. During the Research Symposium held on 29 th May 2017 in Colombo, both Parties selected 18 Research Projects and two Joint Workshops for Funding, 3 projects for Food Technology Selected proposals were submitted by University of Peradeniya (07), University of Moratuwa (04), University of Kelaniya (02) and University of Ruhuna (02). The Universities of Colombo, Jaffna, Sri Jayewardenapura, South Asian Institute for technology and Medicine and Industrial Technology Institute have one proposal each.
A Tripartite Agreement between the Ministry, Principal Investigator of the Research Project and the Institute was signed before initiating the project.
The Research Projects will be funded for maximum 3 years. The Total amount of allocation needed for the project implementation for three years is approximately Rs. Mn. 100.
