(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –High Commissioner Taranjit Sandhu was the Chief Guest at the 5th Convocation Ceremony of Sri Lanka International Buddhist Academy (SIBA) in Kandy. Anunayaka Theros of Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters and other senior members of Sangha blessed the ceremony. A new degree course in B.Tech was launched by High Commissioner at SIBA.
In his address, High Commissioner highlighted the importance of spiritual bonds treasured over centuries between India and Sri Lanka. He recalled the prominent centres of learning in the past – Nalanda and Vikramashila Universities and an eclectic mix of subjects they taught there centuries ago: medicine and mathematics as well as Buddhist studies and philosophy. He encouraged more collaboration between SIBA and Nalanda University of India.
Acting Chairman of SIBA and Basnayake Nilame of Sri Vishnu Dewalaya, Kandy Mr. Mahendra Ratwatte, CEO Dr Upali Sedere, members of Board of Directors and faculty were also present.
High Commissioner met Anunayake Theros of Malwatte and Asigiriya chapters and sought their blessings.
