(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated in parliament today that steps will be taken to provide the necessary funds to develop Girihandu Seya which is the first Dagoba in Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister made these comments in response to a question raised regarding the Girihandu Seya in Trincomalee.
Parliamentarian Anura Sydney Jayasekara stated that the inscriptions on this place are being deteriorated and that attention should be drawn to this.
Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera said that a separate committee should be appointed to develop the historical place.
Buddha Sasana, Sustainable Development and Wildlife Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said that the Girihandu Seya has been named as a sacred area and that a committee would be appointed to develop the place.
The Prime Minister said the renovations would be entrusted with the present Minister who is carrying out a great service.
