(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka police request the Sri Pada pilgrims arriving through Hatton road to refrain from bathing in Castlereagh and Maussakele reservoirs.
The police say bathing in the highly dense and extremely cold water in the two reservoirs is dangerous and asks the pilgrims to use the safe places that have been set up by the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha for bathing along the Hatton Road.
The police also caution the motorists to exercise caution when driving and parking their vehicles as the roads have numerous bends and slopes.
In addition, the police request the pilgrims to support the programs implemented jointly by the police and the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha under the guidance of the Chief Incumbent of the Sabaragamuwa Province Sanga Nayaka and the Chancellor of the Uva Wellassa University, Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thera to preserve the environment during the Sri Pada season.
The annual season to visit Sri Pada, the most sacred mountain in Sri Lanka, commenced on the Unduwap Poya Day on 3 December will run until the Vesak Poya Day, full moon of May.
Hundreds of thousands of local and foreign devotees belonged to all four major religions – Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, and Muslims- trek to the summit of the 7,359 ft high sacred mountain each year during the season.
