Chinese assistance to develop 13 hospitals in Sri Lanka

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Steps will be taken to develop 13 selected hospitals under the assistance of the Chinese government, the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Rehabilitation Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said.

A sum of US$ 85 million will be utilized for this purpose.

Dharga Town Regional Hospital, Aluthgama Regional Hospital, Mirigama Base Hospital, Sammanthurai Base Hospital, Eravur Base Hospital, Pottuvil Baser Hospital, Kalpitiya Regional Hospital, Rakillagaskada Base Hospital, Medirigiriya Base Hospital, Padaviya Base Hospital, Walasmulla Base Hospital, Kalawana Base Hospital and Mahiyangana Base Hospital will be developed under the project.

These hospitals will be developed to include outpatient clinics, clinical complexes, wards, maternity units, pharmacies, non-infectious diseases units, blood transfusion centers, laboratories, operating theaters, emergency treatment units and many other service centers.

Arrangements have also been made to distribute medical equipment worth US$ 30 million to these hospitals.

As the first phase of the project, Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne will lay the foundation for the construction of the ward complex, Pharmacy, Health Education Unit and Non Communicable Diseases Unit at Aluthgama Regional Hospital on the 15th June at 10 am.
