(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed the Chairman of Hadabima Authority Indika Guruge to purchase 100,000 kg of manioc (cassava) from farmers in Kegalle district.
The measure was taken to prevent the middleman buying the produce from the farmers at low prices and selling to consumers at higher prices. The Minister has given instructions to sell the manioc to the public at a concessionary price.
The Minister said the funds necessary to purchase the stock of cassava from farmers will be allocated from the Agriculture Ministry.
