(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka Railway train fare will be amended on the 1st of October. The relevant gazette was issued on the 24th of this month.
The Treasury has advised the state institutions that did not amend minimum fares at least by 15% for the last three years, to amend the fares. Accordingly, the train fares will be amended after ten years.
Under the revision the minimum fare will not be changed for the first, second and third classes. However, the maximum distance that can be traveled with the minimum fare will be reduced from 9 kilometer to 7 kilometer.
The season tickets are also subjected to the change and the fee for the government employee season ticket will be nine times the value of a single journey. For private sector employees the fee will be 24 times the value of a single journey.
