(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that steps will be taken to change the methodology of holding the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination to eliminate the competition, as the exam has become extremely competitive and imposes undue pressure on the children.
The Minister made this statement participating in the opening of the Primary Education Resource Center constructed at Udawela Rewatha Maha Vidyalaya, under the ‘Nearest School – Best School’ program.
Minister Kariyawasam said measures will be taken to provide scholarship assistance through the Grade 5 Scholarship exam while admission examination will be held again. These measures will eliminate competition, he said.
The Education Minister said that a committee will be appointed to study these measures.
The Minister also said that a cabinet paper will be submitted in the future to ban private tuition classes during school hours.
