(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – England have sealed a historic series whitewash in Sri Lanka, winning the final Test by 42 runs despite a late scare as the hosts’ tail wagged.
Suranga Lakmal and Malinda Pushpakumara put up 58 for the final partnership and had England worrying but Jack Leach, securing his fourth wicket of the innings, trapped the Sri Lankan skipper Lakmal in front to spark wild celebrations.
The spin duo of Moeen Ali (4/92) and Leach (4/72) shared eight wickets between them to ensure England became just the third team to win a test series 3-0 in Sri Lanka following the thumping win at Galle and then the tense final-day victory at Pallekele Stadium.
