(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The United States and Australia welcoming the political developments in Sri Lanka expressed expectation to further strengthen the bilateral relationship with the island nation.
U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz said the U.S. welcomes this weekend’s political developments, which upheld Sri Lanka’s democratic and constitutional norms.
“Sri Lanka is a valued partner in the Indo Pacific and we look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with the government and people of this country.”
Australia meanwhile, welcomed the resolution of the political uncertainty in Sri Lanka by constitutional means, and the demonstrated resilience of Sri Lanka’s democratic institutions.
High Commission of Australia in a statement said as a longstanding friend and Indian Ocean neighbor, Australia look forward to working with the Sri Lankan Government to build a stronger bilateral relationship.
“As a longstanding friend and Indian Ocean neighbour, Australia welcomes resolution of the political uncertainty in Sri Lanka by constitutional means, and the demonstrated resilience of Sri Lanka’s democratic institutions. We look forward to working with the Sri Lankan Government to take forward its commitments to deliver peace, reconciliation and prosperity, and to build a stronger bilateral relationship,” the statement said.
