(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Former Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyavasam says measures will be taken to distribute the vouchers for school uniforms soon.
Speaking to media yesterday, MP Kariyawasam said the former government implemented the voucher system in lieu of the previous system which provided the uniform materials to the students to curtail theft and corruption as well as to create an environment for the students to purchase quality materials.
However, the past government was not able to implement it due to the political crisis in the last 50 days and the program will be implemented soon, the MP said.
“Children’s books will also be distributed soon. We hope to quickly and efficiently rectify the shortcomings in the past period and restore the normal functions to provide relief to the public,” MP Kariyawasam said.
He said the government appointed by the President could not continue the Yahapalana government’s economic program and the economy collapsed especially during the past 50 days.
“Now we have to face this situation again, strengthen the economy, develop the economy, provide the benefits to the people, and create jobs. We, as a government plan to organize all these activities and make arrangements immediately,” MP Kariyawasam said.
