Police sub-inspector arrested over Rathgama abductions

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested a sub-Inspector in connection with the abduction and disappearance of two individuals in Rathgama area of Boossa.

The suspect was a 26-year old Sub Inspector attached to the Special Crime Investigations Unit of the Southern Province, the Police Media Spokesman’s Office said.

The suspect has been identified as H.G.V. Madushanka.

The CID on February 18 arrested Inspector of Police Nishantha de Silva of the Special Investigating Unit of Southern Province over the missing businessmen believed to have been abducted allegedly by a police team. He is remanded until the 27th of this month.

The businessmen, Manjula Asela Kumara (33) and Rasin Chintaka (31), residents of Ratnaudagama, Boossa have been taken by a group arrived in a car and a van around 10 am on 23rd January.

Residents say the two businessmen were taken away by a group of people dressed in police uniform.

The CID is carrying out investigations into the abduction upon the directives of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
