(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake has proposed that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) switch to smart meters for domestic users so that electricity breakdowns can be detected.
He made the proposal during a visit to the Ceylon Electricity Board board today.
CEB officials informed the Minister that they are alerted on breakdowns only whena complaint is reported.
However the Minister said that the time has come to consider smart meters so that the CEB is alerted without waiting for the public to make a complaint.
Meanwhile, the Minister had talks with the US Ambassador to Colombo Alaina Teplitz recently.
They discussed the possibility of obtaining US support for Sri Lanka’s power sector.
