(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The time period to hand over illegal weapons currently in their possession to the police has been extended by another 48 hours, Police Media Spokesman said.
On May 4th, Sri Lanka security authorities requested the public to hand over any illegal weapons they have in their possession including swords, daggers, uniforms of the armed forces and police to the nearest police station by Sunday (May 5th).
Hundreds of illegal weapons were seized during the search missions conducted since the terror attacks on Easter Sunday.
Extensive cordon and search operations are currently being carried out by Sri Lanka’s security services and the Police across the country in search of terrorists, hideouts, explosives, weapons and other items.
