(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has given the nod for the government to purchase 325 luxury buses form Lanka Ashok Leyland at a cost of over Rs. 3.6 billion to provide a more comfortable and quality and secure transportation service to the public.
In one contract, Sri Lanka Transportation Board (SLTB) will buy 272 buses each with 50 high back seats for a sum of Rs. 3.264 billion from Lanka Ashok Leyland. The other contract is to purchase 53 luxury buses, each with 33 seats. For Rs. 444 million rupees.
The buses will be purchased under a lease payable in 5 years as recommended by the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC).
The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved the proposal made by Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, to award the contracts to Lanka Ashok Leyland Company Limited for the purchase of the buses.
