(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –A top Vatican official, who is visiting Sri Lanka following the Easter Sunday attacks on Catholic churches last month, held discussions with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe Yesterday (May 23).
A special discussion was held between Cardinal Fernando Filoni, prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the official residence of the Vatican Ambasador at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo.
The discussion focused on the recent bombing of Catholic churches on Easter Sunday and the future program of the country.
Archbishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and the Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Pierre Nguyên Van Tot also attended the event.
Cardinal Filoni during his three-day trip visited the St. Anthony�s national shrine in Kochchikade, one of the bombed churches on Wednesday and spoke to some of the bereaved family members from the Easter attacks.
The government has donated land from Colombo’s port area to the Church to allow them to build an extension to facilitate a new soup kitchen, museum and car park, in the wake of the Easter suicide bombings.
Cardinal Filoni is also scheduled to visit St. Sebastian Church in Negombo and the Zion Church in Batticaloa the other two churches hit by the suicide bombs.
