(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Five persons have been killed when a tractor collided with a van at Kolakanavadiya on the Batticaloa – Welikanda road early Wednesday morning.
Twelve others were injured and rushed to the Polonnaruwa Hospital.
The accident occurred when the tractor was heading from Manampitiya towards Welikanda and the van which was traveling in the same direction, attempted to pass the tractor.
The deceased have been identified as Edirisinghe Arachchilage Pushpakumara (32), BM Anoma Kumari (38), RGA Sanjeevani (30), WA Sepalika and RGA Sakuntala (22). They are residents of Bowatte and Medirigiriya.
Welikanda Police are conducting further investigations.
