(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The motion to extend Emergency Regulations by another month from 22 June was approved in Parliament yesterday evening.
The motion to extend Emergency Regulations was passed unanimously after it was taken up for debate today.
President Maithripala Sirisena issued an Extraordinary Gazette notification extending the Emergency Regulations for another month, from June 22.
Resolution moved by the Leader of the House of Parliament that the Proclamation made by the President under Section 2 of the Public Security Ordinance (Chapter 40), as amended by Act, No. 8 of 1959, Law No. 6 of 1978, and Act, No. 28 of 1988, bringing into operation the provisions of Part II of the aforesaid Ordinance throughout Sri Lanka with effect from 22nd June, 2019, was approved.
The State of Emergency was initially imposed on April 22 following the Easter Sunday suicide attacks on April 21.
