(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Work on the development of the Palaly Airport as an international airport is scheduled to begin today.
The initial plan will be to convert Palaly into a regional airport to service flights to India and thereafter to an international airport with flights to other countries.
Initially the project to develop the airport as a regional airport will be implemented at a cost of Rs. 2 billion.
State Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Ashok Abeysinghe says the main objective of developing the Palaly Airport as a regional airport is to launch a regional civil aviation service centered on India in the first week of next month.
