(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena, as the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces has bestowed the Former Commander of Sri Lanka Navy retired Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and former Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force retired Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke with highest honorary ranks.
Accordingly, the President has awarded the honorary rank of Admiral of the Fleet to Admiral Wasantha Kumar Jayadewa Karannagoda who served as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy from 2005 -2009.
Meanwhile, the honorary rank of Marshal of the Air Force was awarded to Air Chief Marshal Wellarachchige Don Roshan Mahesh James Goonetileke who was the Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force from 2006 – 2011.
The two military leaders were honored for their “outstanding gallantry, meritorious performance and distinguished service to the nation during the humanitarian operation and the defeat of terrorism in Sri Lanka”.
The Extraordinary gazette notification no. 2135/42 announcing the promotions by the President was released Tuesday, August 6th.
