US Asst. State Secy meets FM

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs (acting) Alice Wells yesterday met with Minister for Foreign Affairs Thilak Marapana, Ministry sources disclosed.

The discussion between Wells and Marapana had focused on matters relating to the US-Sri Lanka bilateral partnership and was a follow up to the discussions held during Minister Marapana’s visit to Washington DC in May 2019, Ministry officials told the Lankapuvath.

Officials, however, would not say whether the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) and other bilateral agreements had been discussed.

Acting Assistant Secretary Wells is slated to meet Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, several other top government officials, during her stay in Colombo.

Acting Assistant Secretary Wells on Sunday visited the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade, one of the churches which came under attack by Muslim extremists on April 21.

Wells is visiting Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka on a South Asian tour which commenced on August 6 and is scheduled to end on August 16, 2019.
