(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –An election watchdog in Sri Lanka, People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), which is monitoring elections, has asked voters to ensure that their name is included in the electoral register.
The National Election Commission said the 2019 electoral register is on display from Friday, August 23.
Accordingly, the electoral register will be displayed at Grama Niladhari offices, Divisional Secretariats and District Secretariats island wide.
The Elections Secretariat said that the electoral register could be checked through the website of the Election Secretariat.
According to the Elections Secretariat, citizens of the country who are over 18 years of age can enter their national ID number and check the register online.
The Elections Commission has requested the voters to immediately notify the relevant election offices if their names are not in the 2019 electoral register. Only the voters whose names are in the electoral register for 2019 will be eligible to vote for future elections.
The PAFFREL urged public to check the 2019 electoral register through the website or at the relevant office where the register is displayed.
