(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been reinstated to the Navy.
The Navy said that an order issued by President Maithripala Sirisena to reinstate Yoshitha Rajapaksa as a Lieutenant in the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from 28 February 2016, was signed by the Navy Commander.
The Sri Lanka Navy had suspended Yoshitha Rajapaksa from the Navy in 2016.
He was suspended from naval service upon the direction of the Defence Ministry.
The Ministry had said at the time the decision was taken in regard to a request made by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to allow it to hold an independent investigation over allegations leveled against Yoshitha.
As a result, Yoshitha’s salary and other allowances were halted according to the Constitution of the Sri Lanka Navy as amended by Special Gazette Notification 1010/1 of 1998.
