(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Nearly 200,000 state officials will be deployed for election duties at polling stations and counting centers across the country for the 2019 Presidential election, Deputy Elections Commissioner (Administration) JASP Jayasinghe said.
He said that 48,000 government officials are to be deployed for counting votes and around 98,000 government officials will be deployed for duties at polling booths.
Also10,000 officers will be tasked with various committees such as welfare and transport while a pool of another 10,000 officers will be functioning as well.
Deputy Elections Commissioner said that at least eight officers will be on duty at each polling station and the number of officers can vary depending on the polling station.
Mr. Jayasinghe added that steps will be taken to deploy the extra staff as per the requirement on the day of the counting votes and the process of deploying state officials for election duties has already commenced.
