(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Consumer Affairs Authority has taken steps to introduce new rules for food wrappers (lunch sheets) manufacturers.
The new law is to be implemented with effect from June 1, 2020, according to an extraordinary gazette notification issued by the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority, Dr. Lalith N. Senaweera
Accordingly, the Consumer Affairs Authority directed all Manufacturers and Traders of food wrappers (Lunch Sheets) that on each and every packet or bundle of such food wrappers, a liable containing the following information in all three languages shall be Included.
i. Brand Name
ii. Maximum Retail Price
iii. Name and Address of the Manufacturer
iv. Date of manufacture and shelf life
v. Material used (Virgin PLA, Starch, PABT etc.)
vi. Material Declaration (Food Grade and Biodegradable/Compostable)
vii. Central Environment Authority Registration Number
viii. Size of a wrapper (in cm/inches)
ix. Number of wrappers in a packet/bundle
