(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – A Prison Guard attached to the Pallekele Prison has died when a van met with a road accident in Digampathaha, Sigiriya while transporting prison inmates to Court earlier today (18).
Two Prison Officials and one prison inmate who sustained critical injuries were admitted to the Dambulla General Hospital.
The accident was reported when inmates of the Pallekele Prison were being transported to the Hingurakgoda Magistrate’s Court.
Police suspect that the driver of the van fell asleep at the wheel or lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road.
The van has been seized by the Sigiriya Police.
