Navy nabs five illegal immigrants

(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – The Navy has apprehended five Sri Lankan refugees who had returned to the island from India illegally.

Based on a tip-off claiming that a boat carrying five persons was illegally anchored at Delft Island.

These persons who had immigrated to the Delft island through the sea routes, had later come to Talaimannar area.

Out of five persons, a woman and 03 men stayed at a house in Thalaimannar area and they were apprehended.

By further inquiry of them, it was revealed that one person was hiding in Jaffna area and he was also nabbed.

Apprehended males are residents of Thalaimannar, Pesale and Jaffna areas aged 33, 36 and 45.The woman is a 63 years old resident of Ingiriya area.

Further investigation are being conducted.
