(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The Parliamentary group of the government is scheduled to convene for a special meeting today to discuss matters concerning the upcoming fourth session of the eighth Parliament.
The meeting will be held at the Presidential Secretariat at 11.00 am under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The appointment of the Leader of the House and the nomination of the Chief Government Whip will be considered during the meeting.
The parliamentary group is expected to discuss the Government’s program, the proceeding of the Parliamentary session which will commence tomorrow (03) and the manner in which future parliamentary sessions are to be conducted.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary group of the United National Party will also convene under the patronage of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today.
The UNP Parliamentary group is expected decide the post of Chief Opposition Whip and also to reach a final decision on the party leadership tomorrow.
The fourth session of the eighth Parliament will be ceremonially declared open at 10 am tomorrow under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The President is scheduled to chair the inaugural meeting at 10.00 a. m and read the statement of the new Government’s policy. The President will then adjourned the Parliamentary Session following the presenting of the policy statement.
