(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –The government has taken steps to suspend the importation of maize and peanuts immediately, the Ministry of Agriculture stated.
Director General of the Department of Agriculture Dr. WMW Weerakoon said the suspension will be effective from January 15.
The Department of Agriculture stated that this step has been taken to protect the local farmer since the harvest of the peanuts and maize farmers is due to be released in the future.
