(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) –In an effort to usher the new year with a people centric approach, the government has devised its first community development program of offering free homes to destitute families in each of the 14022 gramasevaka divisions,” Cabinet spokesperson Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said.
Speaking at the weekly cabinet briefing, he said that the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing facilities has received cabinet sanction for an accelerated plan to offer free homes to destitute families in each of the 14022 gramasevaka divisions across the country.
“The project is in keeping with the policy plan of ‘vistas of prosperity and splendour’ which attempts to uplift the livelihood of some of the most destitute of families with new homes and means of incomes,” Dr Bandula Gunawardena, Cabinet spokesperson told the media at the Information department.
The program is scheduled to come into effect from this month, was proposed jointly by both Prime Minister and the Minister of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing facitlies, where construction will begin with the donation of six hundred thousand for either construction or enhancement of a house of a selected family subject to the prority of the Grama Niladhari division as the first phase of the program.
