(COLOMBO, LANKAPUVATH) – Sri Lanka Police today issuing a media statement warned the general public not to spread false rumors in social media on the with regard to coronavirus in Sri Lanka.
Strict Legal action will be taken against individuals who spread false information regarding the novel coronavirus, the Police Headquarters said in a statement.
The Police said false rumors are circulating in social media that a number of coronavirus infected patients have been found in various parts of the country.
However, only one person has been confirmed to have contracted the virus in Sri Lanka and he is receiving treatment at the Colombo Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda, the police pointed out.
It has also been confirmed that none of his family members have contracted the virus either and they are all in quarantine at their home under the supervision of the Health Ministry.
The police request the general public not to be misled by the false information circulating in the social media and assure that strcit legal action will be taken against the individuals who spread misinformation.
